How To Install Wireless Routers
The majority of businesses will use multiple computers, printers, phones, and other electronic devices to accomplish their work. One of the easiest and quickest way to help everyone stay connected with each other and share documents in an instant is to set up a wireless network. This can only be done with the use of a wireless router.
These systems are almost always used in both small and large businesses and can also be used inside of the home. Though it might seem like a difficult process – installing a router is easier when you have the right directions and tools in front of you.
- One of the first things that you are going to have to do is to purchase the equipment that you wish to use. There are a number of different brands that you are able to purchase from. We have provided reviews and information on the most common including Linksys, Belkin, and Netgear. Decide for yourself how much money you wish to spend and what features it does or does not need.
- When you are out purchasing the necessary modem make sure that you also pick up at least one wireless access point that can be used for every computer in the home. This is what will connect it to the network. When you have brought it all back to your home or office remove the DSL or cable modem from the outlet.
- Find the Ethernet cable that is connecting the DSL or cable model to the computer. Disconnect it from the computer – but not from the back of the modem. This cable is usually larger then a phone cord and is easy to spot. Make sure that you do not remove the phone cord from the modem.
- Find the loose end of the Ethernet cable and connect it to the internet port that is situated on the back of the router. The router should have it marked with a different color from all the other ones.
- Now reconnect the modem to the outlet. To make sure that it stays safe while in the power source connect it to the surge protector that you use for your computer.
- Connect the Ethernet cable that came with the router into the Ethernet connector that is situated on the back of the computer. Now connect the other end into the Ethernet connector on the router. Plug the router into the outlet or surge protector.
- Now that everything is connected you need to make sure that it is working properly. Look at the lights on the top of the front of the wireless router. The power light, internet light, and wireless light should all be lit up. If there are any lights flashing or red then there is a problem.
